The husband to English Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, will be retiring from royal duties, according to a statement released by Buckingham palace.

The monarchy, who turns 96 in June, made the decision by himself and his wife, the Queen, have supported him, according to the Duke’s spokesman.

The duke will attend already scheduled engagements between now and August but will not accept new invitations.

Meanwhile, the Queen “will continue to carry out a full programme of official engagements”, the palace confirms.
