English footballer, Joey Barton, has been banned for 18 months after admitting to a charge preferred by the Football Association (FA) against him in relation to betting.

The Burnley midfielder have also been fined £30,000 and warned about his future conduct after an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

However, the  34-year-old plans to to appeal against the length of the sentence.

The former Queens Park Rangers midfielder was charged with breaking FA rules after placing 1,260 bets on matches between 26 March 2006 and 13 May 2016
