Spain’s top tier football league, La Liga are planning to sue world football governing body, FIFA, for expanding the World Cup to forty eight teams without consulting them, according to Sky Sports.

A senior source, who spoke to Sky Sports, says they will do everything possible to reverse the decision.

It can be recalled that La Liga had warned FIFA president Gianni Infantino, that they would take legal action if they went ahead with the plans.

The Spanish say they were not consulted before the decision was taken, especially as the new format which kicks in from 2026, will see number of players taking part increase by 50%.

“We are not happy at all. We are providing extra players but we have not been consulted. We are looking at ways in which we can challenge today’s decision,” the source said.
